Being the “Jone’s” isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. The beautiful thing about human nature is how different we are. So why do we put so much effort into doing the same things? Why place your success bar the same as others? I believe each person is a gift to be unwrapped and discovered. That means we’re not the stuff we wrap ourselves up in like cars, homes, and material things.
People who have the courage to explore life and experience new things are far more interesting. That doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate all the very cool items you just picked up at Costco. But I’m not going to go out and get one too. I may follow in your foot steps taking that cruise or hiking excursion though (tell me more)!
Deciding to change my life to match my soul has been the most freeing thing I could’ve done. I’m facing a new phase where my kids are moving out and for the first time in my adult life I don’t have to worry about anyone else. I get to pick “what do I want to do with the rest of my life?” Some think this is scary, uncomfortable, and maybe even depressing. Possibly. However, it’s also a new beginning. Just like a sunrise and a sunset can look very similar, I have a choice how to look at it and you do too!
I chose freedom. Freedom from unnecessary things bogging me down (no more Saturdays dedicated to cleaning house). No more debt. No more going years without vacations because I can’t afford it. No more going through the motions because that’s what I did yesterday, last week, or last year. No more blending in to the point I don’t have anything interesting to say.
Freedom may look different for each of us. For me, freedom will start in the shape of a tiny home build just for me. A 8.6ftx26ft little piece of heaven. I’ll have a home base that allows me to have what I need (no more, no less) and allows me to travel as much as I’d like.
After 1 year thinking about it and another year preparing…the time has come. I’m eternally grateful to friends and family who understand who I am and support me on this adventure. Check out the first tiny house draft. Can’t you picture it? I’m in love!
Have you ever had the feeling something was meant to be? I had that feeling when I made the trip to pick up my trailer base from Iron Eagle Trailers. On the way down to Oregon we passed by some very happy tiny house owners posting a sign “honk if you love our tiny house.” How fun! I feel good about this purchase already.
I found my people! Fun, free, and adventurous people. Who for various reasons agree living simple is the path to a full and happy life.
